455 BuickHere is the info on that"Radical Buick"...
It has a 455 Buick short block that was built in Detroit by GM in 1971 it has 86,000 miles on it.We un-did 0ne rod to look at the bearing andt was perfect!so I did not rebuild the short block.
It has 7.9 to 1compression with GM pistons but it does have a set of Stage1 heads with2.08 intake valves that came off of an air boat! The chamber size in the head is the same on ALL Buick heads so the compression is still 7.9 to 1. We did install a Lunati cam with a 490" lift and 278 duration running straght up. The heads are match ported to the TA Stage1 intake with a Top Gun nitrous plate and a  Holly 750 double pumper on top. the transmission is a Turbo 400 tranny with a 3500 stall and a Ford rear end with 3.50 gears. Best et's 10.20's on slicks. Member WFO Racing Team   autotech <autotech@davlin.net>

It has a 4.10 geared 12 bolt and a turbo 350 with a 10" converter. The computer engine programs say it should run 12's. I'll guess we'll have to find out when he gets it finished. brd@moneypit.com

Oct. 98: Phil won the street compettion beating out the vega. The vega took off first and red lighted with a .498 so it was an easy win for Phil. He gets to take home the trophy. Jerry in the purple 68 camaro big block ran low 12's. The red 88 camaro with the big hood ran some high 12's. Donny and Phil both ran low 13's on street tires. The vega must have been running good cause it ran a 13.80. The races did not get finished cause it rained us out.

Some heads from Corpus went to Victoria and did some damage. The Victorians had a lot of street cars and some action. There was a great place to race, a big double lane road with no houses around and little traffic. The cops did not come bother us while we were racing, and we raced a long time, like hours. The cops did bust one of the people from corpus when we first got in to town. The police said someone spun their tires and tried to pin it on him but in the end did not give him a ticket. Other than that the cops were cool. The first person to ask if one of us wanted to race was a old yellow tubbed out truck with big fat slicks and pure racing fuel. It sounded good and smelt good. He wanted to race for a $100 but we all declined cause no one had nitrous or money. We all be poor folks. But one of the local folks there with a orange, chopped topped, low rider looking truck was set up to race him. The orange truck had a small block a blower and n2o. Don't know what the yellow truck had. The orange truck was on street tires and the yellow one was on big slicks. Sounds fair to me? So they went to this cool place to race and did some massive burnouts. We all got to hang out at the finish line, a side street with lots of parking ,off the dragway street, to watch from. A lot better than weber. The race was on and the yellow truck beat the orange blown nitrous truck by about 4 to 5 trucks, maybe more. There was a lotta space in between them. That yellow truck looked fast but nothing Denise with big shot of nitro and slicks couldn't handle.

After that money race Phil was itching to race someone so some older guy with a white Pontiac sunbird and a chevy 350 wanted to race him. So Phil on street tires and no nitrous raced him and beat him easily. Next Donny with the white mustang raced him and beat just as easily. I think he was supposed to be the fasted free racer there. Some guy in a 6? mustang said his ran 10's but he did not want to prove it. Some other guy in a 6? mustang raced a lot of people and raced a pick up truck. He could not beat any of them. Bernie should have brought his Toyota truck that would have been a good race for him. We raced for hours and never got ran off from the cops and had lots of fun. Got home at 6 am in the morning.

September 98: The guy with the T-Bird / Mustang got the Tang impounded for racing red MR-2. They pulled up to the light at staples and saratoga. While waiting for the light to turn green a police car pulled up behind them. I guess they did not know this and when the light turned green the race was on. The policeman for some reason pulled them over? A while later we got to see the Tang come by, on the wrecker, on the way to the impound. I thought these things only happened to me, guess not huh?

July 98: Racing on the street. Bruce got his new 406 engine in his car. He added a roller cam and Dart 2 heads. He's hopping he can get into the 11's on motor. He brought his car out on the street with his new motor and thought he would break it in by racing that yellow Vega. The race was on staples street. Phil flagged, he is a good flagger. The Vega took the lead and stayed out front the whole time. At the finish line bruce was right on the Vegas bumper. Bruce was not happy. So he went and tuned his car. Came back and reran the Vega. Bruce launched a little harder, but the Vega still got the lead and maintained it till the finish line. Bruce is still not happy. Tims little chevy luv raced Josh in the red 8? camaro. Joshs car ran 12.30 at the track on motor. Tim beat Josh from a roll and from a standstill.

Tim in the little chevy luv was wuppin up on folks, he raced phils black mustang and beat him by a little but by the next week manuall had his red chevell out on sportman pros and raced Tim on weber and beat Tim by about a car in between them.Manuall also ran Phil with the black mustang and beat him by a little, both on street tires no nitrous. The next night Manuall with his red chevell ran that blue 7? camaro with the white hood and beat him by about a car in between, both cars were on street tires. Then Manuall felt brave and went and ran that yellow Vega and lost, by about a car or so. Cam just got his mustang running again, but it's already broke again. He broke it going out to weber to watch the races. He never made it cause it broke before he got there.

July 1998: Racing at the track. Phil got first place in the street class and also had the fastest street legal car on street tires, the vega wasn't there. Cam ran 13.0. Denise went 5 rounds in non electronics.

June 1998: Racing at the track.   Denise, with the black mustang, ran 11.80's and made it to the 4th round. Phil, Denises husband, with the blacker mustang added 3.73 gears to his car and a power trax differential, and ran 12.53 on motor and on street tires.12.02 on nos but traction was weak , but good if you have slicks the traction was great, Phil was interviewed by the CC caller times for WFO Racing team and got to run the reporter down the track in his stang in front everybody. Both Phil and Denise are members of the WFO Racing Team. Phil and Denises wedding anniversary is June 27, that makes 5 years of marriage. Check out their pictures at DPracing home page.
Cliff and Neal both ran in the 12.80 area. Donny and Tony did not get to race. Bernie is still working on his Buick Turbo T-Type. Fat Rat still does not have his Grand National running. The Vega is still waiting on some street competition to challenge him. Long wait.

June 1998: Racing on Weber. Phil , in the black mustang, raced Robby in the red firebird. Both cars on street tires. Phil took out Robby with no problem. The Vega was going to race Troy in the, tubbed out big block 13 to 1 racing motor, blue 6? camaro. Some one did not show, so there was no race. Manuel in the red Chevel ,383 race motor, raced Phil. Phil took him out with no prob. Both cars on street tires an no nitro.

March 1998: The racing at the track. Denises car ran 12.90 on bf Goodrich tires, 12.50 on motor and 11.50 on spray the track was excellent this weekend. I did not see Tom racing or Tony. I seen Bob McCarty run a 12.15, he might have gone faster but I did not get to here all the times. For some unknown reasons they do not announce all the times so I do not get to know everything. I seen lots of passes but no times. I didn't get to stick around till the end to see who won.

Feb 1998:   The racing at the track. Well due to very poor track conditions people were running way under there usually et, Phil averaged a 2.4, 60 ft w/ an et 12.10 and "Cam" ran 12.50 with a 125 mph w/ a 2.88 60 ft and denise ran 11.70 w/ a 1.9 60 ft.          By  Phil Underwood

Here is some of the things that I saw: Robby in the red 82 Firebird raced Tim in the red chevy luv. Robby won with his best time of the day a 12.91 against Tims best time of the day of a 12.97.

Tom, 1979 Trans Am 455 engine, ran a best of 12.46. No nitrous. He broke his balancer that day.

Denises black mustang ran a 11.76 with nitrous, and her hubby Phil with that blacker mustang ran a 12.10 with nitrous.

Cam procharged white 5.0 ran a 12.5 at 125 mph. I don't think he was hooking very good. Once he hooks he will be breaking stuff. He blew a head gasket on that run. 125 mph means it should be a 10 second car, if it can hook without breaking something.

Bruce in the blue Monte Carlo, 400 small block, ran the best time of 12.30. That was on slicks.

Tony in the blue chev., picture above with nitrous fogger system, did not get to run. He broke down before the races started. What happened?

The Vega, picture above looking yellow, did not bring his car to the track. I think he is scared of all the competition.

I think all the "street cars" above raced with their slicks and mufflers. Except Robby, he had on street tires and still ran a 12.91 with no nitrous. These guys are getting to fast for me.

Jan 1998: Tonys blue Chev. raced that yellow Vega. The Vega got the jump and stayed easily out front the whole way. Tony was on slicks, using a nitrous fogger system on his 460 big block, roller camed, 13 to 1 racing engine. The Vega, almost stock 327, was on street tires. After the race, the sheriff was there in his sheriff car. He turned on his lights and pulled over the bad boys. He did not give them too hard a time. They did not get a ticket for drag racing but gave Tony a ticket for slicks. The Vega being a totally legal street car did not get a ticket.

Toms TA raced Mikes MonteCarlo, from a traffic light at Everhart and CedarPass going toward Yorktown(not a recommended place to race from). Tom beat Mike by a little. Mike broke down
and had to be pulled home.

Bruce in the blue MonteCarlo raced that red early 70 model camaro. Bruce blew a hedder gasket but won the race.

Bruce also raced Phil in the black mustang. I didn't see the race but heard Phil beat Bruce not once but twice.

Phil raced "Cam" in the pro charged white mustang. Cam won by a car or two. Not once but 3 times. Phils nitrous just wasn't doing the job.

December 1997 Racing:
It has been kinda slow but Phil's Toyota did get to rerace Bernies Toyota. Phil put some new mufflers on his truck and came back for a rematch and slapped down Berinies toy. Then Bernie went and took off his mufflers and came back and beat Phil. Was that cheating?

That "Radical Buick" (picture next page, pulling wheels off ground) raced that yellow VEGA .
This time there was someone to start the race. It was a good start, both cars were ready. The VEGA took the jump and maintained the led throughout the race. The VEGA won the race by very little. The buick was catching the VEGA, but just couldn't do it before the end. Both cars had on slicks and were using nitrous. After the race the VEGA had a blown head gasket.

November Racing:
Kevin's Camaro spraying nitrous raced Tims little red chevy Luv. Tim had no nitrous in the 350 chevy engine. I dind'nt get to see the race but heard Kevin won by a car or two.

Tim, little red chevy Luv, went to San Antonio and ran a 12.80. When he got back he was feeling brave and decided he could wup up on Toms high compressioned 455 pontiac. But as before Toms Trans Am took the win. Tim made it a closer race this time, Tom only beat him by half a car. That a lot closer than the 5 cars Tom beat him by the times before. But they had no starter and Tim got the jump and Tom had to chase him down for the kill.

Oct 1997: Tom's TA raced cams mustang. Who won? Depends on who you talk to
it was a too close to call race. Cam was on the sportman pros, Tom was on slicks. This was a without nirtous race. Where was the finish line?
The following week Cam got a ticket for racing, when he was just playing around on Saratoga.

Phil nitros mustang raced Petes super charged mustang, Phil got the jump and maintained the led thru out the race. I think it was at least by a car, maybe 2 cars. Both cars had on thier slicks.

Phil's toyota raced Bernies toyota several times. Phil got the holeshot but was no match for the power of Bernies Toy. Bernie flew past Phil in 3rd with no problem. Bernie just seems to have the fastest little 4 cyl. truck around.

The Vega raced the 455 radical buick, both were on street tires. There was no one to start the race, so the vega left when he saw the buick move. The buick won the race by about a fender. They were going to race the next night with nitrous but someone didnt show.
